Cluster Validation fails when StarWind runs on top of Storage Spaces

  • Troubleshooting
  • April 30, 2015

Sympthoms and description

The cluster validation wizard will fail in cases when StarWind runs in the Hyper-Converged configuration and the StarWind virtual disks reside on top of the Storage Spaces.

That is caused by the following fact: During the cluster validation, the wizard brings the storage spaces down, thus emulating the failure. As the result StarWind loses access to the disk, where the StarWind virtual disks reside, and that makes entire potential Cluster Shared Volume down as well.

Workaround

In order to successfully create the cluster in the situation described above, please create it without running the validation wizard.

Important notice: before configuring such system make sure that you will double-check with the StarWind support department, StarWind community or checking the technical documentation.
